God blesses those who do his will. I had a nice reminder of that the other day and I ended up being the one with a blessing. I kind of laugh at it now but I never saw it coming.
Let me start from the beginning. I was at my usual morning meeting… I meet with a small group of men and women from all different walks of life. There are about twenty of us. We had our usual discussion about things of God and how we can be better achieve spiritually fitness. I have to be honest though. This particular morning I was distracted. I was thinking of the things I needed to do. The things that God would have me do… well I can thing of those some other time.
When the final prayer was said I turned and made a dash for the door. I know that if I stand around to long I may get pulled into a conversation. Most days I’m good with that. This particular day, I wasn’t. I had plans! I was going to work on this blog and make the website better… yea, yea, I know. It needs a lot of work.
As I was just about to push the door open to make my way to freedom I heard a voice. It was the voice of someone who is in pain… extreme pain. It said “can one of you guys give me a ride to the store to get some food?” I waited for someone to answer… it was silent. I thought to myself, “God is this my assignment?” I already new the answer!
I have known this guy for almost two years. He has been homeless and living in addiction that entire time. He just can’t seem to get a handle on recovery. On the way to the store we talked. We talked about God. We talked about his failed attempts at recovery. We talked about options for him. I know his pain… I am in recovery! He bought his food and we started heading back towards the meeting place. I thought about what I could do to help. I told him about a program called Adult & Teen Challenge. He said that he would look into it. I hope he does. I know many people who have gone through it.
Back at the meeting place there was a group of guys still hanging around talking. I figured I might as well go over and chat with them… my plan for the morning was already ruined. As I reached the group one of them mentioned how they needed to get rid of a new recliner. Did anyone want it? No one answered. It was then I realized… it was mine.
A gift from God for obedience. His blessings many times come from the generosity of others.
God Bless
