Even if you are a giver, it takes more than just giving stuff away to reap the benefitsofgenerosity. This is where even the most generous givers can go wrong.
It is a matter of attitude about giving that determines the level at which you will reap. I have determined that there are two types of givers; they are cheerful givers and grudging givers. We know that there are many people who fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of these two extremes, but for illustration purposes we will focus on these two.
The cheerful giver is happy to part with his or her resources and help wherever they see the need. Not only do these people tithe at church, but they also contribute their other resources such as time, talent, knowledge, etc. when they see a need. This is a win/win situation.
The grudging giver, on the other hand, may do the same giving, but it is usually with an attitude of expecting something in return. Even worse, they may harbor resentments because of all that they are “required” to do. This is a situation where they benefit others but not themselves, a win/lose situation.
It’s easy to see the difference. In fact, “…Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8)”xlv
