Honest Work

Let’s begin with honest work.  This, to some of us, seems like a “no-brainer.”  Work has been with us from the beginning of time and it always will be.  “The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”cvi

The truth is, so many people struggle in this area.  They don’t realize the harm that they are doing to themselves and their finances, by trying to leave a little early, without anyone noticing or spending a little extra time on their lunch break.  They are unaware that when they avoid their responsibilities or pass them on to someone else that there is damage being done in their own financial life.  It was Grover Cleveland who said, “Honor lies in honest toil.”  Stop trying to cut corners and start doing what you are supposed to do.  By doing this, you will see changes in all areas of your life.

When you are working, put everything you have into it.  Focus on what you are doing and don’t let yourself get distracted by the other areas of your life.  “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…”cvii  That means putting in an honest day.  Don’t try to get out of your responsibilities.  If it is part of your current job, then do it.  Do it with a good attitude.  Avoid the negativity and bitterness so many people have toward their work.

This applies no matter what you are currently doing.  You will learn how to make positive changes, in all areas of your life.  This includes your work.  If you have a job, it doesn’t matter what it is, don’t be ashamed or embarrassed by

it.  There is honor in what you are doing.  In fact, “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.”cviii  So, if you are providing for yourself, your family, and the needs of others, hold your head up and know

you are doing the right thing.

It‘s time to look at your work habits and see if you are doing honest work.  If you find that you are not, see where corrections need to be made.  If you are, congratulate yourself, but also remember to keep it up.

God Bless
