Movement

It seems silly to be discussing general movement, as a way to maintain health, but it really is not.  Some of us have become so accustomed to minimizing our movement on a daily basis that when we finally embrace a program like this, where physical activity is encouraged, it may take some time to get used to.

I am not talking about the movement necessary to switch the TV channel or the finger movement needed to win that video game.  No, I am talking about consistent movement to accomplish daily tasks.  I am talking about not always doing what seems easy and convenient, but rather seeking opportunities to move our body, even when society is telling us we shouldn’t.  There are almost unlimited possibilities to increase your daily movement.  The best way to accomplish this is to stop looking for the easy way out.  Take the stairs instead of going on the elevator; go into the bank instead of using the drive-thru.  These may not seem very important and by themselves they really aren’t.  It’s when all of these opportunities to move are strung together into a lifestyle pattern that they make a big difference.  “Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person’s physical, emotional, and mental states.”lxxxvi  So, move often!

God Bless
