Tithing, put simply, is taking the first ten percent of your income and sowing it into God’s kingdom. In other words, it’s giving ten percent of your money to your church.
Tithing is discussed in the Principle of Money. Just to remind you, tithing is required! If you can’t follow this simple rule, how are you supposed to be responsible enough to handle real financial success? If you follow through on this, with the right attitude and give out of the spirit of your heart, you will receive financial blessing in great abundance. God says, “Bring the whole tithe into the store house, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”lxxi
Before going any further, you must determine who your source of abundance is. This comes down to three choices: you, other people or God. Unfortunately, most people live their life as if the answer is either number one or number two or a combination of both. Most people don’t realize that it is number three. It is God!
By admitting that God is the source of abundance in your life, you are acknowledging three things:
- Everything belongs to Him.
- He can provide for you.
- You need to be a good steward of everything He has entrusted to you.
