What Should My Diet Consist Of?

With all of the different choices in food, it is sometimes very difficult to make proper choices.  Consistently making poor choices in this area of life is much more destructive to your overall health and well-being than you may have ever realized.

Play

Play is a key ingredient to success and happiness. Many people in society today have forgotten how good it feels to

play in a significant way. I’m not talking about the movement required to roll off the couch in search of a lost remote control. I’m talking about the type of play that makes life enjoyable and meaningful. I’m talking about turning the TV off, shutting down the computer and getting outside to enjoy everything and everyone around you.

Two Forces That Work Together

There are two major forces that work together to shape your overall health and well-being.  These forces, applied separately, will not have the same effect as when you get them both working in your life.  They are the forces of diet and exercise.  I will talk about each one individually later.  For now, I need to stress the point that for optimum health, it is important to focus on both of these.

Take Care of You

It is your responsibility to take care of your health.  No one else is going to do it; so don’t expect them to.  Whether you just ran the Boston Marathon and only need a gentle reminder or you haven’t moved off the couch or eaten a green bean in years, let’s go through this principle together.  When I was in the planning stages of this program, I struggled with including a section on physical health.  There are many people out there who ignore health and instead, are focusing on so many less important things.  Just taking a look at the state of many people today would tell you that we, as a society, do not place enough importance on health and physical well-being.  I finally decided to include this principle because I believe that the state of your overall life is absolutely dependent on your physical health.

Sleep!

Your body needs rest!  The “experts” recommend six to eight hours a night.  I recommend whatever your body needs.  It has become a “badge of honor” in our society to push yourself beyond your limits.  I hear people boasting all of the time about their lack of sleep and I can’t help but think to myself how foolish they are.  Your body needs sleep.  Your mind needs sleep.

I understand that there may be times in the short term, when you may have to put in some extra work time or emergencies may develop which prevent you from getting a good night sleep, but they should be the exception.  Take care of whatever pressing issue is at hand and get yourself back on a normal sleep schedule.
