Good Choices

The choices you make today will have an impact on tomorrow. Most people never commit to make good choices. They are led by popular culture and the flavor of the day. You can change that now.

What Is Generosity?

When people think about the topic of generosity what usually comes to mind is money.  More specifically, their money and what they need to give away.  Generosity certainly includes money and how much of your money you give away to help others.  That is only a small part of generosity though.

Yes, generosity is much more than giving away money.  Generosity is about time, talent, knowledge, wisdom, faith and just about anything else that you may possess.  In fact, you are very unlikely to become financially successful unless you learn to be generous in all areas of your life.

Success

We learn to walk by the time we are one; we learn to ride a bike by the time we’re six, about the same time we are starting school. We learn to drive by the time we are sixteen.  We get married, have kids and then retire.  We do this, most of us anyway, without learning about success.  I’m talking about real success.  Some of us may have learned society’s version of success and that is precisely why we are unhappy and unfulfilled.  Of true success, we know very little or even nothing.  Many of us never learn what success is and what it isn’t.  We don’t understand what failure is or what it isn’t.

Stick To Your  Health Plan

The purpose of this article is to convey the importance of staying well.  You will never grow spiritually if you are out of shape and overweight.  I meet many people who are seeking a successful spiritual life but they often fall short.  Many times, it is the lack of proper diet and physical activity that causes them to fall down.  “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.”xcv  I often find that this is an overlooked missing link between a mediocre life and a great life.

Eliminating Debt

Living in debt has become a way of life for many people.  In doing this, we have become slaves.  Proverbs 22:7 clearly says, “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”cxxxvi  Many people today have been fooled by complex marketing strategies created by today’s mega corporations.  We have been fooled into thinking that debt is an acceptable way of life.  We have been taught that the way to success and prosperity is through the use of loans or credit cards.  In fact, many of the advertisements of today make you believe that you are somehow more important or sophisticated if you have their credit card or loan.  It doesn’t have to be this way.

Create A Health Plan

I thought about supplying sample exercise plans and sample diets in this article, but I decided against it.  At first, I thought that if I supplied the plans, then more people would follow through.  As I thought about it further, I realized that if somebody were going to follow through, they would be willing to do the work.  I believe that if it is important enough to you and I gave you the facts, you would do the research and figure out exactly what you need to do.  I did not want to influence your health needs with what I do.  You need to figure out what will work best for you.

Disciplined Saving & Investing

It’s time to tackle a very troubling habit that we as a society engage in.  It causes us much uncertainty and

sometimes a great deal of stress.  I am talking about a lack of savings and investing.  “If you would be wealthy, think of saving as well as getting.”cxxxii

The instant gratification that we get from buying “stuff” causes us to fall far short of any savings or investing that we need to live a successful life.  Let’s first look at the facts:  As a society we actually have a negative saving rate.  That means we spend more than we make.  I did some research and found the following information.  In Japan, people on average save 27% of their income.  Here in the United States, that amount is actually negative.  Our average net worth is around negative nine thousand dollars.

Play

Play is a key ingredient to success and happiness. Many people in society today have forgotten how good it feels to

play in a significant way. I’m not talking about the movement required to roll off the couch in search of a lost remote control. I’m talking about the type of play that makes life enjoyable and meaningful. I’m talking about turning the TV off, shutting down the computer and getting outside to enjoy everything and everyone around you.

What Success Isn’t

Before defining what real success is, it is important to discover what success is not.  The world and our troubled

society have had a lot to do with most people’s current definition of success.  If you were to take a field trip to your local mall and stand at one of the entrances, you would get a fair cross section of society.  If you asked each person who walked by you to define success in their life, you would get many different answers.  The answers would be just as varied as the people who pass by.  I would be willing to bet, though, that the vast majority of these answers would revolve around the following themes: power, prestige, fame and the big ones, money and possessions.
